What are Dermal Fillers?
A dermal filler is a type of cosmetic injection that can add volume to the skin, smooth wrinkles, and contour the face and body.
Dermal fillers are gel-like materials that are injected under the skin to add back lost volume, smooth out lines, and improve the shape of the face. They have become very popular as a way to deal with signs of aging without needing surgery. The most common dermal filler is hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally exists in our bodies and helps keep the skin moist and flexible.
Why dermal fillers should be used?
- To minimize the signs of aging by smoothing out both deep and fine wrinkles.
- To contour the face and minimize obvious facial asymmetry.
- To make scars from acne and large, visible pores less noticeable.
- To add needed volume to various areas.
What areas can dermal fillers help with?
Dermal fillers are used to address several signs of aging:
Smile Lines: these are the creases that go from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth.
Fillers can make these lines less noticeable, giving a more youthful look.
Corner of the Mouth Lines: lines that appear around the mouth can be effectively treated with fillers.
Sunken Areas: places like under the eyes or on the cheeks might look hollow as you age. Fillers can add volume back to these areas.
Lip Enhancement: fillers can make lips fuller and improve their shape.
Forehead Lines: although Botox is usually used for this, fillers can also help smooth out lines on the forehead.
Dermal Fillers for Body Contouring
Hand rejuvenation: our hands show signs of aging like volume loss and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can restore youthful fullness and smooth out lines.
Buttock augmentation: not a replacement for implants but dermal fillers can enhance the shape and contour of the buttocks for a subtle lift.
Calf augmentation: for those who want fuller calves dermal fillers can add volume and definition.
Dermal Fillers for Intimate Enhancement
Labia minora augmentation: dermal fillers can increase the size and fullness of the labia minora for
aesthetic or functional reasons.
Orgasmic enhancement: some studies suggest dermal fillers can improve sexual satisfaction by increasing sensitivity in certain areas.
Dermal Fillers for Scar Treatment
Scar reduction: not a cure but dermal fillers can soften the appearance of scars by filling in the depressed areas.
The process of injecting dermal fillers step by step
1. Removing makeup.
2. Disinfecting the skin with any antiseptic liquid.
3. Drying skin with clean and dry make-up sponges.
4. Applying local anesthesia with gel, cream or spray.
5. Making injections of dermal fillers, based on the area and with all the precautions.
6. Repeating antiseptic treatment.
7. Applying soothing and anti-inflammatory products to the skin.
Dermal fillers may be used in courses. You may need 3 to 5 sessions of injections. The interval between sessions should be from 3 days to 2 weeks. The exact number of procedures depends on the type of filler and the area where you need to add volume or correct lines. It is important to talk to a skilled doctor. They will examine your face and ask about your goals. This discussion will help decide which filler is right for you.
Remember that dermal filler injections should only be performed by a physician or professional cosmetologist!
Aftercare Steps:
1. Don't touch or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours.
2. Avoid doing sports and booking a spa.
3. Drink plenty of water and keep up with good skincare habits to make the results last longer.
